At university we once philosophized on the question if nature could have agency; the capacity to react. To what extent does a reaction need to be conscious and is a free will to react needed to be able to do so? Nature sometimes has a devastating power. A devastating power that could be seen as a way of reclaiming what was once taken by humanity.

It is interesting to see how interpretations of the power of nature vary and at the same time show similarities among different cultures all over the world, how ideas have shifted over time and are integrated in religion, and how they sometimes almost seem to become a religion in itself again.

No matter how you interpret the power of nature, it is beyond doubt that its strength can be extremely impressive.
